Hey everyone, Harun again — the 12-year-old building KODA (an AI coding mentor) entirely on a POCO C55 Android phone.

Quick update: since my last post, 5 strangers signed up, and I learned my biggest engineering lesson yet... from a billing email. 😅

The email that changed how I deploy

Netlify sent me a warning: "You've used 50% of your monthly credits."

Turns out every deploy costs credits. My mistake? I was deploying every tiny change separately. My fix? Batch features. Ship more per deploy.

So last night at 5 AM, I shipped FOUR features in a single deploy:

1. ✍️ Live typewriter streaming

Responses now type out word-by-word like the big AI apps. Under the hood: stream: true + reading the SSE stream with getReader() and parsing data: chunks — written and debugged on a phone screen.

2. 🎤 Voice input

A mic button. Tap it, speak your question, it types itself. Most of my users are on mobile, so typing long questions is friction. Voice removes it. (Built with the Web Speech API.)

3. 📋 Copy any reply

One tap to copy a full answer. Because developers copy code. That's the whole job. 😂

4. 🔄 Regenerate

Not happy with an answer? One tap makes KODA re-think it. ChatGPT-level UX on a free-tier stack.

🧠 The real lesson: user-driven roadmap

None of these were random ideas. They came from watching my 5 stranger users:

  • They froze at the empty chat box → I shipped clickable starter chips.
  • They're on phones → voice input.
  • They test and leave fast → streaming + regenerate make the app feel alive so they stay.

Your users tell you what to build. You just have to watch them.

Next up:

  • PWA manifest (installable app)
  • Custom domain, someday

Try it: koda-aicodementor.netlify.app

(Still zero user data shared. Privacy first, always. 🔐)

What should a 12-year-old ship next? Comments = my roadmap. 👇
