Workspace 2026 : one USB-C to charge them all

Introduction in 2026 ?

More inspiration - less explanation. AI - that is why.
What will be the workspace of the distant future - who knows.
What will be the workspace in few years of now - probably a device resulting from a convergence of a mobile phone and a laptop, all the dev work done in the cloud only and this new device is just a thin client.
This has become possible also thanks to the rise of the USB-C
The fact that the future has come is manifested by the arrival of MacBook Neo - The Chosen One. This device is just incredible, and yes, it does use Apple A18 Pro SOC, the same One you may find in iPhone 16.
Convergence is coming.
Hence it's vital to get a good charger to be ready for the future - whatever will it be.

Chargers : the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Choosing a good charger is the same vibe as picking a ripe watermelon - the good charger must be heavy.

What are the core features of a good charger :

  • voltage regulation (stable output)
  • low internal resistance (doesn't heat much)
  • USB Power Delivery protocol support

How is it represented in terms of physical hardware :

  • large transformer
  • capacitators for energy smoothing
  • inductors to resist rapid current changes
  • thicker circuit board for heat management
  • better isolation for safety

My best advice - find a disassembly video on YouTube of any charger you wish to buy and you will see that a good charger has more components inside and they are more massive and thus a good charger feels heavier - a very efficient and simple test.

Charger : which power output ?

Roughly :

  • 65W for laptops, tablets, smartphones
  • 30W for tablets, smartphones
  • 20W for smartphones

I would recommend to have at least one decent 65W charger that would cover any needs.
It is important that charger does support USB Power Delivery and that charger cable is of decent quality.

Charger : shortlist

My selection for the 65W charger is the following :

  • Apple Nimble Wally Stretch 65W charger + Apple 60W charging cable = prime engineering worth every penny
  • Ikea SJÖSS 65W charger + Ikea SITTBRUNN 60W charging cable = decent quality and good safety for money

Feel free to explore other chargers and add comments to the article.

Summary

Good charger means fast and consistent charging, device battery health and end-user safety - on the long run it's as important as choosing a device to build your digital workplace.
Long live USB-C!
